U.S. Defeat Now Assured, per Democratic Party

If Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean has one thing going for him, it's that he doesn't mix words.  He always speaks with a plainness and unmistakability that lets you know just exactly how bonkers and barmy his positions are.

From a radio interview Dean gave WOAI, San Antonio News (via the RNC's Katie MacGuidwin):

"[The] idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong... I've seen this before in my life. This is the same situation we had in Vietnam. Everybody then kept saying, 'just another year, just stay the course, we'll have a victory.' Well, we didn't have a victory, and this policy cost the lives of an additional 25,000 troops because we were too stubborn to recognize what was happening."

In the spirit of plain talk, allow me to add that I thoroughly and unequivocally question Howard Dean's patriotism and reject the notion that he supports our troops.  It's one thing to challenge an administration's policies.  It's one thing to question the basis for war.  It's one thing even to wonder aloud whether all of your elected officials are being straight with you.  These may not directly aid the military mission, but when rooted in candor and concern, and not pandering and partisanship, they can be legitimate instruments of debate.  Declaring from one's elevated political standing, however, that we are going to lose the war does nothing to advance legitimate discourse.  Rather, it serves only to rouse rabble, at the clearly foreseeable expense of our military objectives and thus of the safety of our troops.

Howard Dean and the party that elected him should be wholly embarrassed by his boundless asininity.  If not for their own political ends, then for nothing less than the good of the country, they should seek his immediate ouster.
