Support Security - Deck a Cop!
New: The Cynthia McKinney Tonsorial Field GuideTM
According to Sean Spicer, Communications Director for the House Republican Conference, Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) "hit a Capitol police officer today", the day when her party unveiled their derivative, hollow, self-contradictory "plan" for "real security".
McKinney reportedly struck the cop in frustration for being made to wait while he screened people entering the Capitol.
The latest reports indicate the cop was pursuing McKinney down a Capitol hallway just past security, not realizing she was a Member (because she wasn't wearing her ID pin) and therefore not subject to security screening. According to reports, when he caught up and grabbed her, she tore free and belted him.
Just can't be bothered with that pesky security, eh Cynthia?
"The essential element of politics is timing."
- Pierre Elliott Trudeau
[Lest you assume the comically apropos image above is photoshopped, check out McKinney's campaign website.]
The officer called out "Ma'am, Ma'am," in an attempt to stop her.
When the officer caught up to McKinney, he grabbed her by the arm.
McKinney pulled her arm away, swung around, cell phone in hand, and punched the officer square in the chest, according to the witness.
The entire incident is on tape. The cop is pressing charges and the USCP are waiting until Congress adjourns to arrest her, a source claims...
AP:
Members of Congress do not have to walk through metal detectors as they enter buildings on the Capitol complex. They wear lapel pins identifying them as members.
McKinney routinely doesn't wear her pin and is recognized by many officers, [Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider] said, adding that she wasn't wearing it when she entered a House office building early Wednesday.
Sounds like a clear cut case of assault. Wonder if Cynthia will 1) give a heartfelt apology, 2) give a cheap non-apology apology, 3) blame the cop for "making her" hit him, or 4) play the race card?

Update: McKinney is flush with race cards (HT: Drudge)
A statement attributed to McKinney has been released on the Internet, where she allegedly claims to have been harassed by Capitol Hill Police.
The statement's writer says that she has been harassed by white police officers she says do not recognize her due to her recently changed hairstyle.
"Do I have to contact the police every time I change my hairstyle? How do we account for the fact that when I wore my braids every day for 11 years, I still faced this problem, primarily from certain white police officers," the statement says.
The writer details the incident, saying, "I was rushing to my meeting when a white police officer yelled to me. He approached me, bodyblocked me, physically touching me. I used my arm to get him off of me. I told him not to touch me several times. He asked for my ID and I showed it to him. He then let me go and I proceeded to my meeting and I assume that the Police Officer resumed his duties. I have counseled with the Sergeant-at-Arms and Acting Assistant Chief Thompson several times before and counseled with them again on today's incident. I offered also to counsel with the offending police officer."

These videos of her racist, anti-military statements (including encouraging kids not to enlist) should be highlighted. There are four 15-30 second videos linked on LGF: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15246&onlyPosted by: patty | Mar 29, 2006 9:41:49 PM
Oh c'mon. This woman should most certainly be mocked. But charged with assault? Now the cop should be mocked. If it really was "assault", he should have responded a la Sean Connery in "Rising Sun", rather than rushing to file a report while choking back tears of indignation.Posted by: Tom Joad | Mar 30, 2006 10:08:01 AM
Yeah... you don't really get to punch cops.Posted by: Flip | Mar 30, 2006 10:19:17 AM
Is this all we can expect from Ms. McKinney? Undignified displays by someone holding a position in the most powerful nation in the world as a law maker and yet unwilling to follow the simplest of rules herself? She refuses to do the simple thing, WEAR THE PIN that makes those authorized (everyone, and that means YOU, Ms. McKinney) instantly identifiable. She prefers to show her disregard for decorum and expects others to accomodate her. It appears Ms. McKinney is forcing a race issue that does not exist. Perhaps she wants to go down in history as the Rosa Parks of Congress...the brave black woman who dared to go pinless!Posted by: Gretta | Mar 31, 2006 2:18:30 PM
When I first saw the interview of McKinney the first thing that popped into my mind was "she's about to play her race card" and sure enough, there it came out. Listen, I am sick and tired of hearing, " this wouldn't happen to me if I were white". The fact is, this could have, should have and would have happened to anyone race. You violate the security protocal that is set forward at the Capitol Building and the fun begins. This Officer did nothing but his job. I hear them say, "Memebers of Congress do not have to go through security because they are known by their lapel pins". Horse shit, who's to say that today is the day that McKinney gets up and decides that she is tired of being oppressed for the past 400 years and feels it's time for hell to rain down. Is our excuse going to be that she's a memeber of Congress and they just don't do things like that? If I were that Police Officer, I'd sue her ass so quick those bull frog eyes would cross. Here's a good question, do you think Congress played an active roll in keeping her criminal ass out of jail until after Congress meets? Again people, WE ARE DOING IT TO OURSELVES!!! We have let our society be molded the way the dirty politicians want it to be molded.Posted by: Tired of the BS | Apr 4, 2006 9:04:16 AM
I am tired of people who think the laws are for everyone else but them & they are above the law. The police officer was doing what he was supposed to do. TOO DAMN BAD that Ms. McKinney thinks she is too high & mighty to wear her pin or to be checked. Right away she claims "RACISM". That line is so played out after all these years. She should stop her whining & do what is expected of a member of Congress. If she doesn't want to follow the rules, let her go home. Terrorism should be our top priority - not whether people get offended when they are checked for security purposes. I applaud the Capitol police!!!!!Posted by: Virginia | Apr 5, 2006 3:33:27 PM
Ms. McKinney you should be ashamed. Racial profiling? Bad hair day? Whatever! I am a Mexican American woman and as a fellow minority I find you embarrassing. Ms. McKinney, you were elected to your office. As a law maker, you should understand the necessity for all citizens of this great country to obey the laws that have been established by the body you are a member of. To fail to face this reality and blame YOUR actions on racism is not only a disgrace but makes it harder for people really facing racism to be believed. Quit crying wolf and start living up to the standards expected by those who elected you. I saw your apology if that is what it can be called, you skillfully practiced the art of deniability. The next time you chose to break the law, say what you did and that you are sorry, and hopefully do it in front of a judge!Posted by: debbie | Apr 7, 2006 9:47:02 PM
this is a disgrace. we have a subject who represents our country and helps bring new laws into our country ,and she can get away with hitting a cop! and not be indited on assualt cahrges . what the hell is going on . i guess if you are a representataive you are above the law. its just another democret grtting away with breaking the law. let stop the b.s. and i hope the officer files suit . and i would like to see her kicked out of office. if a cop hits anyone anymore its all over for him justified or not.Posted by: ohio | Jun 22, 2006 7:25:43 PM
