Surrender, Failure, Abandonment Still Unpopular

Two new cut-and-run plans were put to votes in the Senate today, one courtesy of Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Russ Feingold (D-WI), the other from Carl Levin (D-MI) and Jack Reed (D-RI).

Fittingly, both "let's fail" proposals failed.

Kerry-Feingold (co-penned by a pair of Presidential hopefuls) went down in style with an 86-13 bi-partisan oh, hell no.  Levin-Reed was shot down more along party lines (60-39), but even this less severe case of self-loathing defeatism (which only set a timetable for the beginning of a withdrawal, rather than for its completion) was distasteful enough for several Democrats to give it the thumbs down.

Not among them, however, was New York's junior Senator.  Just days ago, Ms. Clinton was booed by an anti-war crowd at the Take Back America conference, when she so bravely claimed she was against a "date certain" for withdrawal.  Yet not only did she support Levin-Reed's skedaddle amendment; she was an original co-sponsor.  She also pontificated on its glory and splendor for 15 and a half minutes on the Senate floor yesterday.

Looks like Hillary may be taking steps to get her far left groove back, having heard so vocally from her betrayed base in recent days, following her protracted middleward sashay.
