Breaking: John Kerry WILL Run for President in 2008
Senator John F. Kerry plans to announce today that he will not run in the 2008 presidential race, and will instead remain in Congress and seek reelection to his Senate seat next year, according to senior Democratic officials.
We should expect him to file papers to form his exploratory committee with 2-3 days.
Update: Flip...
"Two years ago, I sought the presidency to lead us on a different course," he said on the Senate floor. "We came close ... certainly close enough to be tempted to try again. There are powerful reasons to want to continue that fight now. But I have concluded this isn't the time for me to mount a presidential campaign."
Update: And... Flop. Hoo boy, that was quicker than I expected!
[Content warning: follow the above link only if you're prepared to encounter a 5 minute video lecture on waffle making, er... grassroots political activism.]
To be perfectly precise, this isn't explicitly a declaration of candidacy, but rather, one must presume, Johnny Ketchup's achingly web-savvy (they've got a poll up and everything) effort to manufacture a Draft Kerry movement, a meticulous choreography of arm twisting to which he'll succumb sometime in late 2007 or early 2008, after the surge has been given time to fail and the overt Democratic candidates have all beaten each other silly.

Update: Looks like the whole band is getting back together for the occasion.
