Obamacare: Like Hillarycare, Only With More Socialism

But don't take my word for it.

Obama says his health package does more
...
"Cost is the number one reason that 47 million Americans do not have health insurance and thousands more are edging toward bankruptcy every day," Obama told a town hall-style meeting of about 350 people at a Council Bluffs high school. "That is wrong, and it's why my plan does more to cut the cost of health insurance than any other proposal in this race."

If the problem is cost and if government can dictate that cost without triggering monumentally destructive unintended consequences, then let's quit these half-measures altogether and just cut the cost by 100%.  And why stop at healthcare?  Millions of Americans are improperly nourished too.  Millions more are forced to live in cramped quarters, with rationed air conditioning, basic cable, and a lower level of general opulence than they would prefer, were "cost" not an issue.

Once we lay the awkward, heavy hand of government on these items (starting of course with healthcare, as the most vital service category), access to and quality of care are bound to flourish, quieting economists, historians, and reasoned thinkers everywhere, and blazing a trail toward a true workers' paradise (something the world has really been wanting to try out).  I for one am hopeful, despite the gloomy theoretical and empirical evidence suggesting it might end poorly.

Reality doesn't seem to bother posers. Obama and Clinton pose as people who believe in what America stands for but everything they say and do proves they don't. Our capitalism is what has made us strong. We are a generous people. Our generosity is due to us giving freely, not by force. I recommend John Goodman's website for anyone wanting rock-solid, market based health care information. This is the link to his blog: http://www.john-goodman-blog.com/ From there he has links to other great sites. Health care can be bought for a reasonable price - IF we get the government out of it. The government ruined the health care market with wage freezes in the 40's, Medicare and state mandates. Third party payers destroy the relationship between the doctor and the patient. The government IS the problem, not the solution.

It's not just the government, it's also the fox watching the hen house. In many states doctors sit on the boards at state level who determine where hospitals will be approved to be built and bed sizes and features they will be allowed to have. It always seems we never have enough beds when flu season peaks and you end up with patients in the halls all over the place. Also the AMA limits home grown doctors to such an extent that we have to import many who train to go back to their home countries and then stiff them to stay here for bigger bucks. I go to my local hospital and 80% of the docs on the listings are foreign imports. Simply the AMA constrains supply to keep the price up beyond fair market value. Hospitals are told what equipment they may have so for example they can't go out and get a CT scanner unless approved for one. If they unleashed that the backlog for access would be reduced and economy of scale would push the individual machine cost lower.

If you follow the single-payer/universal health care crowd you will see that an awful lot of docs and hospital administrators (which also consists of a lot of docs) are trying to force universal health care on us. I don't disagree that some states think they can keep the number of doctors artificially low and keep their pay up through medical school admissions. That just isn't the case because doctors are mobile. It is not very difficult to hire a doc on a J-1. I have done it. I also know we paid GPs $80,000 plus a percentage of what the practice made (2005). This is in a small town. Not a lot of money.
